ATKDA Coloured Belt Grading Line Work

The ATKDA line work for coloured belt gradings are listed below (available for download as a PDF) from 10th kup (white belt) all the way through to 5th kup (blue tag).

From blue belt onwards, there is no set line work. Sparring becomes part of the grading syllabus, and you are expected to know (and may well be asked to perform) one or more of the following: 3-step sparring (numbers 1 to 10), 2-step sparring (numbers 1 to 8) as well as 3-step semi-free sparring (advanced).

10th kup – White Belt

White belt signifies innocence, having no previous experience of Tae Kwon-Do

White Belt Line Work

Name and grade, position 1 (and so on…)

Press up ready position: 10 press ups (counting out loud in Korean if possible).

Barrol.

Move to the left in sitting stance: 10 single punches (counting out loud in Korean if possible).

Change arms: 10 single punches (counting out loud in Korean if possible).

Left leg back (walking ready stance): twin block.

Leg rising exercise: 10 leg rises (counting out loud to 10 in Korean if possible).

Right leg back: 10 leg rises (counting out loud to 10 in Korean if possible).

Backwards: walking stance, middle block, reverse punch.

Forwards: walking stance, low block, reverse punch.

9th kup – White Belt Yellow Tag

Yellow belt signifies the earth from which the plant sprouts and takes root – the foundations of Tae Kwon-Do are being laid.

White Belt Yellow Tag Line Work

Move to the left in sitting stance: 10 double punches (counting out loud to 10 in Korean if possible).

Change arms: 10 double punches (counting out loud to 10 in Korean if possible).

Green belt signifies the plants growth – Tae Kwon-Do skills begin to develop.

Green Belt Line Work

(Going forwards) right leg back: middle guarding block, side kick, knife-hand strike.

Backwards: first three moves from Won Hyo tul.

Forwards: side kick, reverse side kick, back to guard.

Step turn (into guarding block): side kick, reverse side kick, back to guard.

Forwards: turning kick, snap reverse punch, back to guard.

Backwards: fixed stance, side punch.

5th kup – Green Belt and Blue Tag

Blue belt signifies the heavens towards which the plant matures into a towering tree – Training in Tae Kwon-Do continues.

Green Belt Blue Tag Line Work

Forwards: left leg, circular block, front snap kick, (land) reverse punch.

Backwards: hooking block combination (from Yul Gok tul).

Forwards: L-stance, side kick, reverse side kick, back to guard.

Step turn: L-stance, side kick, reverse side kick, back to guard.

Forwards: L-stance, turning kick, reverse turning kick, back to guard.

Step turn: L-stance, turning kick, reverse turning kick, back to guard.

4th Kup (Blue Belt) to 1st Kup (Black Stripe)

Blue belt signifies the heavens, towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae Kwon-Do continues.

Red belt signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the oppent to stay away.

Black is the opposite of white, signifying maturity and proficiency in Tae Kwon-Do. It also indicates the wearer’s imperviousness to darkness and fear.

Gradings Results for East Midlands Tae Kwon-Do

Explanation of Results

In the ATKDA, there are four possible grading results:

RESULT EXPLANATION
Fail The student did not meet the standard required to pass the grading.
Pass The student has met the requirements to pass the grading, though there is room for improvement.
Plus Pass The students performance at the grading was above average.
A Pass The students performance at the grading was exceptional.
